Dalhia Cavazos Artist Statement
Color Me Chartreuse, watermedia on paper
|
Color and texture are a driving force in the art Dalhia creates. Inspired, in part, by her desire to learn new things and to preserve a moment. The moment caught in a look, the limited time span of bubbles and circles symbolizing the cycle of time.
Dalhia was born in Fort Lee, Virginia and received her BFA from the University of Kansas. She grew up everywhere and nowhere. As an army brat she moved around a lot, which contributed to her love of books and a vivid imagination. With her mother being French and her father a Latino from southern Texas she has a rich heritage, which she draws on for inspiration. The exploration of color and texture is a consistent element in her work. Working intuitively she investigates her inner and outer world to communicate intellectually and emotionally through imagery. As a visual thinker, her art allows her to communicate where words fail. Her paintings invite the observer to see the world through her eyes. For her, creating art is about exploration, experimentation and examination. Working with watermedia she investigates motion, color, texture, and imagery. Exploring each medium's visual qualities, handling characteristics and how to use them together. Watermedia includes watercolor, ink, gouache, pastel, charcoal, acrylic and pencil. Education
